Once upon a time, there was a special place in that vast
wasteland called television in which viewers could learn and
explore the many wonders of planet earth without being
exposed to artificial laugh tracks, extreme violence, or
poorly written sit-coms.

If you subscribe to a cable television service, chances are
that you've flipped through the channels with your remote
control and stopped your mindless clicking by exploring
Mount Everest or the Amazon on the Discovery Channel.

I love(d) the Discovery channel. This station was always
good for an hour or two of family viewing. Lizzy and I would
watch TV together, and visit places that few people have
actually been to.

There is now a new place to visit on Discovery:

The land of betrayal. To get there, one walks barefoot
through six inches of freshly deposited cow dung.

The Discovery Health channel will be producing a new series
with the National Dairy Council, in partnership with the
American Academy of Pediatrics, that is designed to promote
milk consumption.

This is nothing more than a paid informercial.

The series wll be airing twice each day, at 9 AM and 11 AM.
Unfortunately, many schools now show the Discovery Channel
during school hours, and children will soon be learning a
lie. They will be taught that dairy products are an
important part of a healthy diet.

Future shows include:

April 26, 2002 - Calcium Crisis

Nations haveing the highest rates of bone disease also have
the highest rates of milk and cheese consumption. Those
nations not eating cow's milk products enjoy the lowest
rates of osteoporosis.

Children should be taught the truth about milk and calcium,
not dairy-sponsored propaganda:

April 30, 2002 - Milk Myths

Children are shown milk mustache ads, which ignore hundreds
of lines of converging scientific evidence leading to one
truth: Milk does not do the body good.

Children should be taught real science:

May 3, 2002 - Obesity Epidemic

Milk and dairy products are filled with fat, cholesterol,
lots of calories, and powerful growth hormones.

Children should read the true dairy connection to obesity:

May 6, 2002 - Lactose Intolerance

Kids should read up on the facts:

"Discovery Health" is an oxymoron. Health? Milk promotes
illness, not health. Discovery? The excitement of discovery
often yields buried treasure. In this case, Discovery leads
to a Pandoras's box filled with demononic diseases.
